PK: A poignant reminder of fear of religion (Not God) and how different fearists sell it.

One line is enough to summarize how two and half hours were (Well) spent. Trying not to spoil the movie's best kept secrets, the movie revolves around an amusing character who is far away from the civilization in which we live and he literally finds himself in an alien world. PK learns how to live with the limited knowledge of his surroundings and wins hearts with his honesty and childlike curiosity. PK relies on his learning quite literally and his actions are to the T which is not the way we live and hence at times he pulls a laughing riot and at some makes you question on your belief system. He shakes the ethos of many who are blind follower of the lines they have been asked to walk without taking any rational out of them and thus subjected to wrath of those who are blindfolded with their faith system. He unknowingly provokes questions which are seldom asked due to fear of backlash and gets people answer them in their discomfort.

Amir Khan minus PK stands for nothing. This movie belongs to him, there may be many characters but not sure why their story was not well constructed or may be PK was such an overwhelming character that while he was on screen you couldn't notice anyone else and that's the magic of Amir's class. My biggest let down was Bomen's no show. He was always one of the best written characters in Raju Hirani's movie but unfortunately he finds no bravo moment this time. For me he was completely wasted. Anushka was more or less similar to her chirpy image which she portraits in every other movie of hers. Other than her changed look I didn't quite find anything new with her this time as well.

While the movie was highly anticipated and was definitely top notch acting by Amir Khan for sure but I felt let down by the script which wasn't crisp and heavily relied on the spontaneity of protagonist. Parallels are to be drawn between PK and OMG and if I have to go by content and freshness then OMG is the winner. The analogy of being antagonist has been well played by Paresh Rawal and hence I wonder why Raju Hirani who is a class apart director went ahead with such lose content by his standard.

The movie tries to weave multiple issues like Indo-Pak, terrorism, Godmen, idol worshiping, religion in general and fail to capitalize on any except taking a dig over Godmen and their fake illumine. I surely don't find any content being objectionable for which outcry has been raised on net. Creative freedom is required for directors to objectify their view point and that was done with sincerity without any planned intention to hurt anyone's feeling. In totality I was tad disappointed with this one at the end.

Meri Aashiqui Bus Ab Tum Hi Ho!

While people will surely draw similarities between Aashiqui-2 and Abhimaan as the theme may be similar but the treatment is contrast. Here, the story revolves around how obsession pulls you down and importantly there are no ego clashes but a lot of love for each other that eventually gives strength to both for taking their final decisions.

In comparison to its contemporary Aashiqui, this one wins the race in all but the music department. I guess Aashiqui-1’s music can’t be challenged till date and it will remain a milestone forever. Having said that, music of Aashiqui-2 is no less than brilliant, I was humming the songs when I came out despite hearing them very first time so surely they are intoxicating.

Story as many would be telling is similar to Abhimaan, a super star musician RJ is rapidly declining from his stardom but he doesn’t care of it much. Amidst of this fall to disgrace, he comes across Arohi, a subtle middle class “Dream to catch Moon” girl. He is blown away with her vocals and gives her a dream of making big in music. He in the entire journey to her stardom stands next to her protecting and promoting her being immensely in love with her not caring his personal status. As they say, fame comes with fate. In this case Arohi’s rise to top brings happiness to the couple but society brands RJ as a fallen tree who is taking solace in the rise of Arohi. Arohi on the other hand holds together RJ not to fall completely apart, sadly unsuccessfully. The stigma of being the one who is pulling Arohi down from her rise, RJ part his way from her leaving her to become what he always dreamt for her.

From the cast point of view, both protagonists fit their roles to the best. Shraddha Kapoor as a middle class girl looks every bit of it, she looks ravishingly refreshing, not with lot of makeup her natural beauty does the charm all the way. Acting wise, I thought she could have done a better job but she was convincing in her role. My pick of the movie is definitely Aditya Kapoor. He has done few roles before this movie but nothing special to mention, this movie would make him a star he should be. His role of a drinking problem ridden vocalist has been revelation. The only thing which I thought was missing was a die for chemistry between both the leads. Mohit Suri needs pat on back for handling the story so well; this movie is surely director’s baby. Final acknowledgement to the singers of this movie, Aashiqui-1 made T-Series what it is today, similarly these new singers have made their mark by giving vocals in Aashiqui-2, I hope they will succeed the same way.

The real ghost lies inside -- Talaash

The real ghost lies within, if I have to sum up the movie Talaash. It’s been long seeing an intense movie and though the ending and most of second half doesn’t live up to the high expectations set by the first half, this sure is a great watch for 2 and half hours.

Sometimes, “what if” is a question that fills so much guilt in heart that it leads to complete ouster from real world. The same is story of protagonist for this one. He is filled with guilt of his past and that drives him to tear apart his family life but this was until he gets involved in a high profile mysterious accident of a rising super star. The events following take many bizarre turns and with adding piece to piece protagonist not only solves the case but also gets solace in tranquility. Although being severely criticized for his abnormal behavior by his subordinates in the process of solving the case, he finally comes in terms with the real world. His “Talaash” for inner peace ends when the final scene ends.


The movies is amalgamation of three “Talaash” in together interweaved, first protagonist’s troubled life, second being love and hate relationship of a pimp with a prostitute brilliantly played by Mr. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, he surely is a man to watch in future. I liked him a lot in Kahaani and he outplayed that in Talaash. Finally third story being quest of finding answers to questions which were buried deep inside and no one sadly had any clue of them being there. From the cast point of view Amir is at pinnacle of everything, I don’t think he can make any wrong decision while picking any character. He played a troubled police inspector’s character to the “T”, Kareena’s sultry performance definitely is oomph factor of the movie and she looks cheeky every time she appears in a scene. As a depressed and saddened housewife Rani essayed the role to the best, all three actors in the movie are so matured that it never occurred for a moment that there could have been any better choice for these three central characters. A big thumps up to the director Khatgi as she really dominated the feel of movie, she was able to maintained the tone of movie almost till the end which in a thriller genre a commendable achievement. Another person I would like to loud would be Ram Sampath, his haunting melodies really set the tune for the movie to the best, his approach to music is really different and refreshing to hear. It’s so hard to compare a “Bhag DK Bose” to “Jiya Lage Naa” and he does it all!

 And finally few lines for the cynics who went berserk over the concept portrayed by the narrative and director. I find them truly fit for brainless no brainer trend of comedy era in which we are living in. Even if they are condemned by the same people, I can’t think of any comparison between two separate genres. I can’t find their hypocrite approach to condemn when an Indian director is trying to use an imagination against going gaga over series like Matrix, Lord of Rings and even Harry Potter. I think audience need to grow up a bit and encourage directors coming with a fresh breath of air, even if it means fantasies.

 With flaws in most of second half, Talaash still qualify to a must watch for a gust of fresh air!

A New Star Is Born - RockStar

First of all, Rockstar is not a mere love story, for those people I saw drawing conclusion that this is just an extramarital affair which is justified by Imtiaz Ali, it’s much more than that.

When the character of protagonist was getting built, it was told to him that it would be pain that would get the star out of him; movie is journey of making of a Rock star who goes through pain of separation, depravity from society which makes him someone he was never meant to be but finally a Rockstar. A true blue eyed boy who was always away from any sense of pain in his life until he falls in love and tore apart life of his and love of his life Heer.

I am although not a big Rock music fan but got food for thought for those posthumous rock stars that lost their lives to depression and drugs. This film gives gray shades of their tainted life which is always open to so much of public scrutiny which perhaps helped me to recon with their hysterical behavior.

It starts with a young lad trying to make big in music but who doesn’t have soul to sell himself as a serious artist. He has shown a way through love and betrayal and he fancies his chances with the most admired girl of the town, little does he know that this would embark an endless journey of pain for both which would see it’s penultimate end being both leads battling for their survival literally.

I don’t wish to discuss movie dynamics in length as this is not about how the script has been written with/without conviction. The real sense of conviction in this movie comes through Ranbir Kapoor, he lives the character of Jordan and gives performance of his life time. Not in for a second you would think for the entire movie that he is a movie star, you would watch him struggle through his pathos. Kudos to him for pulling this off with such great ease, I couldn’t imagine anyone doing this role and leave the same impression. Nargis who is the leading lady in this movie, looks no less than an angel in movie and gives a performance for which any new comer can feel proud about especially against such a strong character played by Ranbir Kapoor.

Of all the loudest praise should go to two people, A.R. Rehman for his genius music and to Mohit Chauhan, this movie is as much a milestone for him as it is for Ranbir Kapoor. Both Mohit and Ranbir jells so well that it’s hard to believe that actually Ranbir’s voice is backed by a singer, it’s a compliment for both of them. Every song stands out and they all are superb.

I thoroughly enjoyed this journey of making of a Rock star. This movie is not about making a right statement to society and not to follow the footsteps of protagonist; it’s about how much pain it goes in making a real Rock star that makes everyone feel on the cloud when he couldn’t ground his foot correctly. Movie is dark in nature and this is about an anti hero Jordan who don’t have sense of righteousness and he vents out his anger in form of music, a picture perfect depiction of a rebel Rock star to the core.

Watch it, if you are in for dark movies. Don’t expect any Bollywood masala but an intense tide of emotions throughout.

3 Idiots - Nothing Idiotic About This?

Give me some bad words, give me some taunts.
Give me another chance; I want to be critical on 3 idiots at least once.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t get a Rancho to fulfill this dream of mine.

If only someone else would have played Rancho other than Aamir Khan, this movie would have been some what mediocre. Its class of Aamir’s acting and timing which makes 3 idiots a special movie.

Mind you it’s not a path breaking movie like Taare Zameen Par neither a ground breaking revolutionary movie like Rang De Basanti, its actually a mild reminders to those who have lived their entire life for something they never wanted to do. It says out loud “Give them another chance; so that they can grow up once again”.

Aamir as Rancho enters to lives of people who always had a dream ready to erupt in their heart but unfortunately their social and moral responsibilities were holding their hands from long. Not only Rancho teaches his friends to live up to their dreams but also teaches lesson of moral responsibility to people like Viru (The principal), this all comes with a brisk smile and amazingly casual attitude.

The storyline has been loosely based on five point someone of Chetan Bhagat but there has been many alteration for good. It’s not the story though which keeps you alive but the small bits and pieces which sometimes brings a broad smile (When Aamir & company says “All izz Well”) and at times keeps your heart overwhelmed (Especially when Raju’s father gets admitted to hospital). It has got some moments which makes you crave to give a tight slap to Virus (The principal) when he is at his best, harassing students. There are some laugh out loud moments special mention for the speech at Teacher’s Day celebration. This is a complete masala movie with class of its own, some where in league of Munna bhai, No wonder it’s coming from the same director Raju Hirani.

What I like about Aamir Khan’s movies is although he has central character but all other characters have their fair share of work. You would not see Aamir overloaded on each reel but still he will leave the best footprint. He excels and every time proves why he is known as “The Perfectionist”. One more feather to his cap, way to go.

Other than Aamir, Bomen Irani has played a remarkable role. As a cruel and heart less educationist, he played his role at par to anyone. You will love to hate him till the end.

Sharman Joshi is one man who connects to audience effortlessly. He has played his lower middle class son’s role impeccably. Kareena is her short but effective role of Pia is very impressive. She comes as a fresh breeze, every time with her scintillating charm mesmerizing the audience. The role of a jealous and self-centered geek Chatur ramalingam is one of the best portrayal of a non-protagonist in recent time. Only disappointment was Madhavan, with an actor of his caliber this was a very low profile character.

Music is also very nice, specially “Give me some sunshine”; it surely took me back to my days at college. All izz well is surely a new anthem for young generation. Zubi Dubi is also a nice viewing. Director must be given most of the credit for making such a young movie with lads way above their projected age in movie. Excellent thought process and characterization; he surely is one of the most creative directors we have. Cinematography is also exotic especially when lense captured best of Shimla and Ladakh.

The movie also gives an important message of how growing pressure on performance is driving young generation into depression and making them to take wrong decisions in life. It also tells you not to run behind success but work for excellence and success will follow. As always Raju Hirani has gone with a message.

Although their are some unnecessary instances towards end which prolongs the end but still It’s a must must watch for all moviegoers and special watch for those who doesn’t see movies as well.

Aura Of Auro

Almost two decade back I saw a movie called Anjali, although then I was not that smart to understand the crust of movie but still it touched my heart, specially little girl. I was deeply moved by seeing the chemistry between Revathi and Shamili (The girl played role of Anjali). The same scenes were recreated when I saw chemistry between Vidya and Auro. I had only one question in my mind while watching the entire movie and it was: Does Big B has any limits? Not even for a single moment made me feel that I am not watching a 12 year old boy but a 67 year old. I think he sets competition for himself; no one can match his panache and enthusiasm. Amitabh is mind bobbling in playing Auro in Paa. A delightful treat to watch from start to end.
The story is very crisp and fresh. It’s gripping enough to ensure you glued on your seat until the end. The flow of movie is also quite impressive, very rare dull moments (I surely didn’t find any) if any. It’s not a tear breaker, if you go with a mindset of that type. It’s on the contrary a light hearted family movie with some delightful laughter moments of its own. Conversations between Auro and his friend Vishnu are amazing, they are innocently cheeky.

Performance wise Amitabh has again outperformed everyone, the best part of the movie is, characters are very less and every character has a very strong appeal in the movie except that of Paresh Rawal. Vidya Balan has rediscovered herself in her powerful role of Vidhya, she has portrayed 21st century’s modern woman who can survive on her own. Her character seems to have custom made for her. I never had doubt on her acting capabilities but lately her weird choice of unconventional roles made me think otherwise. Abhishek is remarkable in a young GenX politician, in real life if some same breed politicians are born then we will surely head towards a better country, although very much unreal but he made his role feel as real as possible. Auro has definitely became a cult in young generation, he has created a wave of sympathy once again (After Ishaan did it in Taare Zameen Par) for special children. I have no words to praise Amitabh therefore leaving the space blank for that……………………………
Musically movie is very correct, songs fit to situation and words gel into ears. Nice and soothing listening. Special mention should go to the makeup artists who made Auro come to life possible. In short, it’s a movie which would touch your heart at once and will make you feel humbly requesting more of Auro out of it.

Kaminey - Fatak Movie

Fatak!! This is the expression which concludes my review for Kaminey.

Tail of twins fighting against their fate and love, this is a new age cinema for Bollywood, it's a perfect black comedy which is dark (Mostly due to the stretch of movie shot in dark) and the comedy is situational not in forced. Be it the stammering of Guddu or Charlie or punching lines of Sweety, the viewers just couldn't get enough of them, they would strive for more. These three protagonists have performed near to perfect interpretation of characters, really treat to watch. I must say that the chemistry between Guddu and Sweety is the oomph factor of this movie. They both look so much into each other that you would get goose bumps seeing them getting closer.

The story is about pursuit for happiness. For Charlie it means being a bookie, for Guddu it's following his life chart he has prepared and pasted on his closet and for Sweety pursue Guddu for getting married to her. These tree pursuits get entangled and produces one hell of a nightmare but eventually they all hit the jackpot. Story gets wild swing when Charlie unknowingly poachers a cop car which has a big surprise waiting in it. This triggers a wild chase, parallelly Sweety who is sister of a local gangster traps Guddu into marriage vows but little does poor Guddu know that this marriage would cost him dearly. Cops and Sweety's bother both chases Charlie and Guddu respectively, the events following are full of blood and confusing plots but as they unfold Charlie and Guddu eventually manages to get better of everyone.

Shahid Kapoor who played Guddu/Charlie did a fantastic job. Quite contrasting double role from usual and surely this wasn't easy to be played at any stretch of imagination. Brilliant effort, he surely has improved a lot from being just a chocolate boy. My pick from the movie is Priyanka. I often thought of her being a charmer which great body and looks but never did I expected her to pull up such a power packed performance as a local Marathi Mumbai chi mulgi. Her portrayal of Sweety is one of the most effortlessly close to real characterisation I have seen in recent past. Music is quite unusually pleasant. It's very raw and pulls the right strings when it strikes.

The biggest setback for the movie is identity crisis, while you would be glued to see three protagonist running around, none of other character would leave any lasting impression on your mind, partially due to all of them are relatively unknown stars and although they have also played their part with equal panache but still leaves a viewer disappointed. There is a problem in second half as it crawls and sometimes becomes eventually impossible to understand which way things are heading, not because of the plot but because of disarray of weaving the parallel stories together. Writer and director failed to do this successfully. While we get close to end; things get rather absurd than interesting. the movie loses it's track in the penultimate gang war, this could have been totally avoided.

Still the movie is a definite watch, Vishal Bharadwaj is a great director, he makes his characters so alive and leaves no void for improvement in them, be it Maqbul, Langda Tyagi or this time Sweety. He although is always inspired from Hollywood but surely makes his flicks Bollywood cults. Had the second part was little more impressive this movie would have been a definite Pulp Fiction of Bollywood.

Love Is Eternal...Not Aaj-Kal

We are now living into a materialistic world where even the relationships are now built on calculation...but does that mean that the essence of true feelings have gone obsolete?
Finding answer of such trivial question would take you a long time unless you want to see a 2+ hours movie called “Love Aaj kal”. I am sure now the bells would not ring but definitely in time to come people would realize that the message delivered by the movie is much deeper than what it feels from the first look.

This movie is a journey of love from past to present, to convey the message that something doesn't change with the time and at the end one has to follow his/her heart because that's what is the real pursuit of happiness.

The story of movie revolves around two protagonists, one from the present and one from past. Only with the glitch of time -frame change, both the stories follows the same path and ultimately ends at the very point where essentially a true love story should end, A happy ending. The only difference in both the stories is the way realization happen, in the one of past the realization is much of obvious where as in the present it's quite melodramatic yet very close to a real life incident which you could see around.

Yet after being such serene,pure and refreshing what this movie lacks is the attachment with the characters, you would not be able to connect to the characters as you should, may be the soul of it is missing due to lack of chemistry between the lead actors Saif and Deepika.

I wouldn't say they didn't perform well but still I was kind of disconnect to them though I felt more connected to story of past..may be because I still have my faith on age old love sagas :-). I guess the chemistry between Saif-Deepika didn't work as well as it was expected.

Performance wise, I guess Deepika was standout of the entire cast, she played her role of straight headed career oriented woman with much of ease and really was completely involved in her role (May be because her traits belongs to the same). Saif was looking much of a confused person not only because his role demanded it but also because may be he was not hitting the right cord along with Deepika. Role played by Rishi Kapoor is fantastic, he was the best fit for the role and the urge, excitement and emotions he portrayed were so true to be real that it always made you feel it was coming right from heart and you would want to follow them.

Music is really peppy and catchy, few tunes are foot tapping and there is a very nice soft song “Dooriyan” which would slowly intoxicate you. Cinematography is also very nice and so as direction, the best thing of direction is that Imtiaz never does copy of anyone's style but his improvisation is so nice that he somewhat creates a cult, be it “Socha Na Tha” or “Jab We Met”.... you would find people relating themselves to the characters, I am sure this would continue after Love Aaj kal as well. He always come to characters not larger than life but so true to life, absolute treat to watch his movies.

All in all this is a good bet to spend your money.

New York: Worth A Watch!

An eye for an eye will make whole world blind. Although the peace Guru Mahatma Gandhi said these inspirational words decades ago but they still hold the same meaning and important in this world of today. Resolution for a problem is only possible when either side of conflict is ready to understand the stand of other. If you look around the world of today, all the long running conflicts are those where neither side is ready to understand other’s stand. Be it Indo-Pak, Israel-Palestine or the latest America-rest of world.
New York is not a simple movie, its bird’s eye view of the on-going racial conflict between Islamic radicals and US government. For the very first time after watching this movie you might have your sympathy for both sides of conflict and apathy towards the people who are unnecessarily igniting this not so necessary conflict into a war zone.
Movie starts in backdrop of an undercover operation to foil the ploy of yet another terrorist strike on US soil. As the series of events start taking shape it becomes quite vigilant that the penultimate end would be highly engrossed with emotions and thought provoking, for a change a complete contrast to usual bollywood flicks. This movie is a visual representation for aftermath of 9/11 as to where US stands. It shows their amateur approach to start with resolving the conflict which later puts them into trouble. It shows the wrath and agony of people who were detained after 9/11 for no reason, tortured, harassed and molestated which later provoked them to take avenge towards this injustice against a specific race. This is far superior movie to be just called a bollywood masala movie, it’s a retrospective answer to many unanswered questions to both US and Islamic extremists.
Performance wise it’s difficult to choose if John was superior or Neil. Both have surely performed one of their best for many years to come. John’s transformation from a true patriot to terrorist is not only a heart warming cliché for those who had really gone through such horrifying times but it also brings sympathy for those people who got mislead to path of destruction and revenge. On the other hand Neil played touch perfection role of a friend who lets himself on line of fire just to see well being of his loved one. The passion of his love towards Maya (Katrina) earlier and later his compassion to the same woman just to see her happy. His portrayal of a helpless person under adverse circumstances being pulled by his moral & ethics and trust & honesty towards his friends. He played this entangled role better to anybody, kudos to these two stars for putting such great performance. Katrina has finally arrived to acting for good. Her unquestionable love and care towards Sameer (John) is really touching. Every tear she drops for him is worth it, a classy performance from her too. Last but not the least Irfaan Khan who knows how to perform, he makes all the roles he play one for him. His implacable and flawless acting skills make him one of the best contemporary actors India has produced in recent times.
Kabir Khan’s approach as director is impressive, first he took Afghanistan as his subject in Kabul Express and now the more controversial post 9/11 issue and both times he did complete justice to the subjects. Yaaron song is surely going to be rhymed for years to come and so the movie will be remembered as one of the true portrayal of post 9/11 aftermath.
Don’t expect an entertainer while you go watching this one, I am sure you would be disappointed but it’s worth to be seen.

Ghajini - Amir's Hysterical Performance

Atrocity is not bound to a sick mind but it can be for avenge of the purest part of you which is love. How could a person with a stature of our protagonist can became so brutely insane that he literally butchers people who come in the way of his path of revenge but most importantly of all is the answer to question for justification of this gruesome act. The mind bobbling find-and-kill tail of a nerve wracking, high pulsating and ferocious sequence of violence embedded with adorable sequence of serene soft romantic moments makes Ghajani the most talked about movie even before it was released and surely the movie live up to the hype and hysteria which was created earlier.

Inspired by a holliwood cracker "Momento" not even a single sequence in this movie falls anywhere down to the era created by the earlier blockbuster. In totality it actually put Ghajini on top thanks to the animosity and ferocity displayed by ace actor Amir Khan . He has created a cult for society by playing Sanjay Singhnia and surely it will wipe off all the earlier images he built. I am sure the gray shaded role he has played in this movie will become the most liked gray shaded role performed in recent times. He is a gem and just polishing the shine further with every single movie he is making, absolutely impacable.

The story line is also altered from it's original tamil version (Of course from it's holliwood version as well) and for good only. There are actually two parallel stories which run through first half and the pace on which it runs really gives you a feeling of saturating enjoyment well within the halfway. Second half starts having a rendezvous with Ghajini and the closing bell will left you dumbstruck with the raw action and the intensity Amir has displayed in his pursuit of Ghajini, highly spirited performance. The only flaw one could derive from Ghajini is the role of Ghajini himself and the motive on which the lead actress gets killed, it should have been more convincing or in other words the grandeur performance of Amir Khan will underrate anything underlying.

From the performance point of view Amir is a standout. The intensity, the build-for-kill attitude, the raw wrath and agony which was required for his character; he did full justice to that. I don't think anyone in Bolliwood could have taken up the role and would have done even half of the delusion Amir did. Asin is surely going to make a great mark with this movie, she was outstanding in her role and her charm of caring a girl-next-door look is going to knock many hearts and doors to get opened going forward. She is going long way in Bolliwood for sure, her presence would ease off the tensions and would give you a chance to blissfully smile and adore the couple (Asin-Amir). Although she need to work on the intensity part especially in the last scene of hers' where she wasn't convincing while getting killed or may be Amir set the bar so high that no one could reach to his mark and would leave you to comment.


Background score and music are apt to the situations and would definitely give you a breather which will be a must while things around get highly intense as the movie progresses, direction and especially the raw action sequences of the movie are outstanding. It gives you a feeling that it's a genuine storyline not a Bond story where flying bullets never hit the target as long as it's Bond who is facing them. Our hero in the movie is vulnerable and he makes mistakes often. Needless to say not his fault, he can only retain memory for 15 minutes. Although the theme is copied from elsewhere but the projection is brillient and surely this will be the best movie for the year from Bolliwood.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi -- Review

Identity crisis, this is what happened throughout the movie where the most unconventional aspect was how a wife can't identify her husband being in his vicinity all the time?

Apart from this flaw the movie seems to create some magic though is far away from the era created by DDLJ. The story traverse around a mid-aged gentleman Surinder Sahni and his subtle lifestyle which portrays any common man in the country. The movie is themed to show his quest to conquer his spouse's heart with his simple yet sober living style which he finally achieves with keeping his values and dignity intact, the end of movie definitely going to remind the melodramatic end of Dil To Pagal Hai's. What movie lacks is the strong projection and theme based character, apart from Surinder Sahni none will remain on top of your mind once you leave the theater.


Shahrukh undoubtably works the way to top by his protrayal of character Surinder Sahni. He looks so genuine and real as the character that one wouldn't give a second thought but by putting himself in his shoes, very realistic. What kills the movie's class is his second role as Raj, he must understand now that such flamboyant roles are not characteristic to his age and image now and he should avoid clinching such roles. Apart from this he steals the screen anytime as soft spoken Surinder. New girl in the block Anushka Sharma plays a good part. She looks good, matured and shares the screen with Shahrukh with ease. She never looked as a new bee in the movie and played her role convincingly. She is definitely going to get some big projects after this one. She has elan, grace and perfect weapons in her arsenal to cruise the way into audience heart, way to go girl.

Entire movie is shot in Amritsar, a contrast from any Yash Raj camp movie which are mandate to shoot in Switzerland, if not all then at least a song. Surely now they are realizing that it's not the location but the theme and performance that matter more to make a movie success. Music of the movie definitely is melodious, all the songs are well timed and helps to move the movie ahead, not just simple fillers. The track "Dance pe chance mar le" would definitely let you make some moves when you listen and see it on screen. The important point where movie lacks is the element of surpise within it,the storyline also is not new. Viewers are always aware of what would be next which drops the level of excitment a viewer should have while watching the movie. The role of Raj is not at all convincing and it's more an irritating one than anything else, a role which should have been thought in better way. It's only the individual performance that lifts the movie from falling in the category of an average movie.

In a nutshell if you are an SRK fan then it's a must watch for his role of Surinder Sahni, if you like good family oriented musical then this can be a good watch for a family.
All in all I recommand this movie, at least you won't be disappointed after leaving the theater.

Dostana – Dost-Na-Aana

This is all about friendship: Two men love a woman, a woman who shares the same house with them. All the time being in the intimacy she never realizes that in fact she is the love interest of both the men in her life. Reason for the same is quite bizarre and unique, something which you should only know if you are willing to watch the movie. The only thing that could hold and can standout of the movie is despite all the turmoil and misunderstandings these three friends managed to stick together.

I was aware of the theme before I went watching movie but to be frank I never expected such prudent matter will be used to literally make non-sense, what eccentrics the movie to deviate from it's theme is the way protagonists strive to make a run for their love interest but still not keeping the dignity of the social status attained unwillingly, absolutely horrendous. I would say the script has to be blamed for same, one can't understand whether people around are arose to find love for their self or stay mischievous and do the acts which would keep them miles away getting their love.It gets tangled and failed to show both the fun side and the serious side of matter or anything similar. From the performance point of view, apart from showing off skin I couldn't find anything special by John Abraham and Priyanka. After Fashion I must say that Priyanka has got the trick how to wear right look: her dusky skin, curved shape and silky voice would definitely let you run for breath. When in competition John was no less to her and showed his tan body a lot. Abhishek wasn't really doing anything in the movie and the worst part was played by Kirron Kher mothering Abhishek, she really was a waste in the movie: A role which had no meaning and acceleration in the story and should easily gone through the scissor while editing movie. Don't want to talk anything about the direction since there was nothing special to be mentioned. The act put across by Bobby Deol was little to be appreciated. I should mention though that the cinematography has been a big plus for the movie, really best of Miami has been captured through the lense and some really peppy numbers which comes as relief in between well choreographed by Farah Khan, they are the only life saver amidst all confusion.

I don't mean to attack personally Karan Johar as we live in a liberal society and a democratic country where everyone has their right to express views, but he is again and again going juvenile to portray something which is a very sensitive matter and should need a mature handling. If this was to be made a light hearted comedy movie then there were hundreds of other themes. He surely need some other creative thoughts to be put across on the plate for audience to accept both critically and commercially, I guess this movie might get commercial success but I can't imaging this getting any critical acclaim. At least not from my side, this to me was no good than any B-grade movie: a movie I couldn't recommend anyone for viewing not because this deals with a matured matter but because the matter has been handled with immense immaturity, this has not only degraded the social stature of people belong to the stream but also would embarrass everyone while watching it alongside their pals.

Fashion: Makes a strong show and statement!!

Dazzling beauties, scintillating faces and an unprecedented dark shadows of backlashes: backstage of the glamour world is grossly scaring and unbelievably haunting. Madhur Bhandarkar’s next real life reel movie although not in the same league of his previous works but yet makes a strong mark on the mind of viewers.

The wow of the movie is the way fashion shows have been presented, remarkable camera work to capture the zest of the glam, astonishing sets and most importantly sizzling Kangana and Priyanka on the ramp. Kangana surely played a real showstopper in the movie; her confidence on the ramp would definitely give complex to seasoned models and even super models.

The story is about rise & fall of an aspiring chandigarh model Meghana played by Priyanka who wants to burn the ramp with her aura and set the stage on fire with her presence. Her confidence and dynamic attitude makes her in the wish list of all the top brands and she acclaims supermodel status from veteran model Shonali played brilliantly by Kangana. I although have not seen much of live fashion shows but had my share of watching and I could definitely rate both of them on the acme of the act they have incorporated for Fashion. Kangana appeals me more than Priyanka as she definitely stands tall when it comes to the flair and attitude on the ramp than anyone else in the movie. She steals the shows when ever she comes on the screen, be it on ramp or being hysterical on and off drugs, she plays such high-spirited roles with so ease and convenience that sometimes I feel that she definitely need a rehab! Priyanka is sassy and sparkling throughout the movie. I guess after Aitbaar this is the first time she has shown her gray shades in movies and I must say it suits her to the fullest. I should praise the entire star cast as everyone has put a splendid show but can’t leave mentioning three other picks which are Mugdha, Arbaaz and Kittu Gidwani. They look so apt and professional especially considering Mugdha as this is her debut she comes as a fresh breeze and makes a positive statement over her acting capabilities.

What impresses me the most is every time I go for a Madhur film being assured that it will be naked truth yet convincing and this guy never lets you down, so real yet commercial. This quality of his film making put him on the list of top directors, another impressive fact is he like Yash Raj, Johars and other houses doesn’t necessarily keeps his patent star cast for making a movie treat to watch but his thorough research and in-depth analysis and most importantly interweaved issues which depicts in the movies like in Fashion it was homosexuality, drugs, casting couch although it could be barred keeping in mind that glamour world cannot be discounted without it, this makes his work so unique. He is a real star maker; he can make deliver goods from anyone and everyone; kudos Madhur for the efforts and consistency. Undoubtedly until “Ghajani” and “Rab Ne Mila Di Jodi” comes this is going to be the best movie of the year from Bollywood.

Wall-E : A Must Must Watch!!

As the time progresses the machines are overtaking on human and replacing them in the area where we lack. While hatred over religion, race and colors is growing exponentially; the time has come to learn how to start love unconditionally from our WALL-E. If in one word I could describe WALL-E then it would only be “Overwhelming joy”. A visual treat to watch with the characters so very mechanical yet so real that while watching you would like to be one of them. At least everyone would like to be so pure and genuine as WALL-E while they watch movie.
Being alone and cast away is one hell of experience but even a small spark, a simple hope could give birth to that new and everlasting feeling to spend a lifetime as our beloved WALL-E goes through while he finds his hopes in EVE, a robot sent to earth for assessing if it is livable to the human species where the only two creatures staying currently are WALL-E and his cockroach friend, a blissful one.
The storyline is set against the post-apocalyptic staggering climate, when the man made spectacular sky-scrapers of garbage awaiting for disposal, which shockingly remind us of true dilemmas of our time.
In our world, while pollution, energy, and quality of life each make up an intimidating problematic in themselves, there is an underlying human tendency, a techno-savvy and chasing the comfort of lifetime which is shockingly mirrored in WALL-E's world. In this world, humans are saturated with information, over-connected through their internet devices, yet entirely unattached to themselves, each other, and the world around them, may be the future we are moving towards where the personal touch is only left with the remote control and to the mouse click, really shocking. But technology is in no way to be blamed. The robots are only built to service human needs, for their comfort. WALL-E reminds us creating a humane personality takes time, exploration, adversity, love, fascination, hurt, pain, sacrifice and a never-ending spirit of curiosity; the qualities which sets human apart from other living creatures on earth.
I could not find enough words in my dictionary to appreciate the magnificent bit of art work put through by Pixar motion pictures; they are simply “the best”. For the very first time I felt being short of that very hand which I would like to hold and watch the sunset while WALL-E sits next to EVE and tries viciously to hold her hand but couldn’t succeed, to dance on a beautiful jazz piece toe to toe and hand to hand as WALL-E desired with EVE. I felt and went through all these emotions and I am sure everyone who was watching with me went through the same experience. I couldn’t find a single moment while watching when I wasn’t sad as WALL-E was or was overwhelmed as WALL-E was at that very moment. I looked the world and love through WALL-E’s eyes and I must admit I had never seen life so beautiful and meaningful earlier. This is not a movie; it’s an experience, of being loved, to love someone; which somehow is being getting erased from our lives. This movie isn’t just an animation movie for children; it’s a learning for all age groups.
Next time when you tell someone “don’t be like a robot without feeling” (Sometimes our Heroes in movies are called robot for their expressionless performance); please think of WALL-E and reconsider you statement. I now know that even machines have heart which bits for someone and everyone.

Bachna Aye Hasino – I really mean it!

How a girl who is so career oriented that she makes her living out of driving cabs at nights in Australia can fall in love with a womanizer who on every meeting is seen with a new girl, while shopping gets undisputedly most notorious items but still is wooed enough that she ends up falling viciously for him. Either the director doesn’t have brains or he thinks the audience. On the other hand I found the character of two other ladies in the movie Manisha Lamba and Bipasha Basu adorable in comparison to what Deepika played. Manisha in her juvenile love is betrayed at an early age and the bitterness is carried out for next 12 odd years until her first love comes back in life only to apologies for the mistakes done off late. Later part shows Bipasha as the super model “the who's who” in the fashion world and is another victim of our protagonist's notorious nature. She earlier with her aspiration in making carrier in modeling ends up having a live-in relationship with our hero only to get ditched waiting in the court for their marriage. I couldn’t find any reason any normal human being with little bit of dignity could do sometime that absurd with anyone but our killer protagonist finds it a salvation to his freedom and is less interested until he is hit back the same way though more gracefully.

Once when Karan Johar came with concept of extra marital affair the hush was made so loud that he had to come along with SRK on giving explanation on the theme. I still remember that event and still then I wasn’t in consensus with it. I am still the same, call me hypocrite and I’ll very well accept it but not the new Killer concept of sleeping around with ladies and still wanna get the love of life.

Anyway it still doesn’t mean that movie offers nothing. The cinematic beauty captured by the lenses would let you awestruck. Minisha though looked very average but was nice enough, Deepika I guess should forget this movie as she virtually didn’t had anything to do in it. My pick of the movie is Bipasha! She is a revolution, she looks stunning I think she is in perfect shape and the attires she wore really complemented her. I am sure now she has struck the right cord finally, her acting skills have been improved a lot and she played a fantastic role in the movie. She is worth for watching this movie once. Music is just more than average but still other than one song “Khuda Jaane” one can’t really remember any other for long time.

I said so many things about the movie and plot but it would be really unfair if I don’t praise the main protagonist Mr. Killer alias Ranbir kapoor. He is surely a watch out in future, although playing such an ultra modern role he looked apt in it. I guess this is the way this new generation is looking into relationships, let them be but I am sure once found true love anyone would do everything to make it right.

Personally I would not recommend watching this movie.

Mein Bhi Jaanu Tu Bhi Jaane

I knew her from really long, we were best of friends for all these years. People talked about both of us as a pair but we didn’t care for them and went along as the best buddies. A boy and a girl both “Friends forever”! Does this really exist?
Before watching the movie I was well aware of the very fact that two protagonists of the movie can’t be friends forever, I just wanted to see their interception of this fact. It’s official that Jai and Aditi are now the new heartthrob for the Youngistaan, a refreshing movie having blend of “Socha Na Tha” and “Dil Chahta Hai” and does the same magic. It also reminds me the story telling plot of “Chalte Chalte” where the story is being done by the friends! Story goes along smoothly with no unexpected twist and turn and ends on a happy note.
Both Imran and Genelia have done justice to their roles and with lack of acting skills they were able to show the immaturity and confusion these two characters should have. Other characters also played their roles convincingly. Paresh Rawal is refreshing in his new role (I am fed up of seeing him playing type casted roles in Priyadarshan flicks). Comic timing is the life of movie which makes it watchable. Even with the cameo of Arbaaz and Sohail makes it hilarious especially at the end of movie. The small bits and pieces of such well crafted scenes make this movie a fun to watch .The idea of three conditions to be fulfilled before becoming a Man of Ranjhore’s Rathod is hilarious.
The life of movie is the music, the tunes let you stand on your feet and move your body with the characters, brilliant cinematography which also tells you it doesn’t take an abroad trip to shoot an eye catching song. The pace at which the movie runs will always keep you on your seat just like the character (well written) in the movie that the story is being told. The girl Mala (The airhostess girl friend) does an amazing job to show her emotions and involvement in the story just as the audience would do while watching movie. This shows and confirms that it’s up to the story teller to let you involve or get you of your seat the very next minute (Great story telling by the writer and director Abbas Tyrewala) . Nasir and Ratna’s pair steals the show whenever they come on screen, again reminds me one of most popular pair on silver screen Ashok Sharaf and Priya Tendulkar (in Hum Panch). All in all it’s highly recommended to those who like good music along with soft romantic movie.

Sarkar Raj - You should Watch

Set against the milieu bidding adieu to the uncrowned king Subhash Nagre being over taken by his son Shankar who is ruthless yet following the footstep of his father to make his state a better place. Lurking with the possibilities of having a mammoth opportunity to change the fate of his state in future, Shankar accepts a high profile power plant establishment to commence under his own umbrella. Little does he know that the actions taken by him would lead to the unexpected events making a father’s wrath and agony being the driving force to retaliate against unfaithful departure of leafs from his family tree.

What emerges from this tangled puzzle is a web of corruption and self-interest, all fueled by the need for power. In one plot thread, the men behind one soon-to-establish power company will stop at nothing to make the deal go through, since the new company will be one of the most powerful in the country. Meanwhile, a power struggle between the two sons: one of Subhash Nagre and the other of Rao Saheb an aging king of rural maharashtra has attracted the attention of the same organization. They don't want the reform-minded Shankar Nagre, whose priorities will be building a country to benefit his own people to run the show for them. They want instead the Rao saheb’s grandson, who will continue to relegate his country to a cosy spot in thier hip pocket and take orders directly from them. In the film's most chilling plot strand, one can see how the struggle for power feeds the radical villager’s movement in the state, providing young men with a feeling of brotherhood and righteousness in the face of a region they feel has turned its back “The Nagre dynasty” on them in favor of big business and Western corruption.
This film does an excellent job of illustrating just how politics and big business conspire to preserve the status which also protects their power and profits. The interaction between different set of people depicted in this film shows how all actions have consequences. Murder is a crime; a murder at right time is politics. In order to gain a long term benefits for his men; Shankar overruns his father decision which lead to a series of nurve wracking events sees his untimely demise.
Abhishek in a gray shaded role enjoys his best performce surpassing his father in every encounter between these two. Only once curtains for the son are down father shows his class, what an actor Amitabh is, I can’t praise him anymore…can I? Aaishwarya is worth every tear she drops while Amitabh reveals the truth at the end. Bachchan trio power packed with explosive perfomance is a must see this time. (They surely rock the nation everytime they come together – Remember Kajrare-Kajrare!) . No point praising Ramu as this is his forte, no one can depicts the power play better than him and he proves himself once again. Well done Ramu!!

Taare Zameen Par: Rated “PRG” (Parents Require Guidance)

If all start living on their own terms, this world will be altogether a different place. Childhood is that juvenile period in life when the dreams have no boundaries and sky is the limit. It’s only when the weight of someone else’s dream comes on your shoulder; life turns full circle and you start as if there was no past. Resisting sticking with past raises questions to your capabilities as in this world there is only one way to get praised which is to perform the best in all the fields.

This is not just a movie but this is a world from a child’s view. Here 3*9 can be 3 and yes it’s logical since Pluto (The 9th planet) has no more existence. Ishaan is an eight year old boy who is little different from others. Lost in his own world, always short of words but yet understands every single aspect of life. Problem with him is to express himself loudly, no one understands the way he behaves since he himself is puzzled the way things are going around him. Unclear in expressing himself, he presses his parents and teachers to start thinking that he is not one of the normal child but someone who requires special attention. This forces his demanding father to sent him to a boarding school, an eight year old boy who always lived his life in shadow of his mother couldn’t adjust to this abrupt distance from her and goes into mental trauma which makes him a speechless kid, Berated by the teachers and friends around, this new world takes every color from his life until his new art teacher Ram comes in and helps him to get outside the nutshell to prove that Ishaan is no less than a brilliant artist in making.

It’s a lesson for all those parents who expect their child to win all the races; one has to accept that you can’t have no# 1 in every house, someone has to be in lower down the order. Actual problem starts when parents start pushing their child to fulfill their own dreams which they saw but couldn’t convert into realities. It’s not always about being in the race and finishing first, sometimes finishing it gracefully also matters. In a way, everyone can relate to it, especially if you have grown up in India where most children are classified as dumb or unintelligent if they "can't" become engineers or doctors. Movie is a biting criticism of the times we live in. But it also makes you smile, laugh, cry, nod in agreement and seethe with anger; everything that a movie is supposed to do. It truly is a movie which everyone can relate to. Reminds you that movies are meant to make us think; to provoke us and act as a mirror of our times. Taare Zameen Par does all this and much more. This is outstanding heart-warming stuff, hats off to Aamir for once again taking on an off- beat topic and bringing it to life in his directorial debut. This movie surely belongs to children and their childhood.

I myself have worked with kids who require help like Ishaan and I know it very well how do they feel when the world is too demanding and there is less power in you to fulfill them. I am happy that I saw this movie well in advance, now surely I am going to do justice to the new age coming. I rated this movie as PRG and surely it’s a must watch for each parent and future parents.

Saawariya - Unleashed!!

One of my most awaited movie for the year was Saawariya, me being a big fan of Sanjay was expecting something at par as succession of the previous eras he created and was eager to watch and get answer of my below questions:
1) Whether Sanjay Leela Bhansali would manage to converge the innocence of Khamoshi, romance of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, grandeur of Devdas and sensitivity of Black into Saawariya?
2) Whether Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor indeed herald a new era of young romance?
3) Will I be watching this movie unquestioningly again and again?

I found my answer after a disappointing two and half hours watching Saawariya. To be very frank I am yet in shock that Sanjay can make a movie like this? I always considered him next to Satyajit Ray, Bimal Roy as far as class goes, next to Raj Kapoor when it comes to the showmanship and next to Guru Datt when it comes to tragedy but this was an utter most disappointment for me. Not even a single aspect of movie making be it cinematography, dialogs, performance, editing, timing of songs or even the script had anything which would look refreshing. Entire time I was not sure if I am watching a movie or a set of distinct songs which are put across as and when the bridge is shown in the movie.

While watching and reading in the news about Sajay getting angry on the lead actress Sonam of not being able to perform; now I could say that given such a melodramatic puppet role whose job is to start giggling without any reasons and if require drop some glycerin tears again without any reason can drive you crazy sometimes. Ranbeer was just ok, if Rani wouldn’t have been part of the movie or I should say her character then I would have preferred watching Ekta Kapoor soaps more than this movie. I am not sure if I would like to listen any song from this movie again which I was doing lately a lot as it will remind me those horrible time I spent watching this piece of GOOD FOR NOTHING.


Sanjay wakeup!! you are a talented man; don’t lose the way. Please get some professional help and reform yourself. Just putting melodious music can’t guarantee a movie to be liked by the audience, it require a good story to go along with that as well.

From my side it's a complete no to those who even wish to see this movie and those who have already seen........I understand their pain.

Om Shanti Om - Review

One ticket and maximum fun; how is the deal? Well deal is on and named Om Shanti Om for you. A Diwali bumper offer from the house of King Khan and of course Farah Khan.

To start with the story it’s more or less reincarnation of Karz by Subhash Ghai, so those who watch it thinking a new stream can stop thinking the same, although the treatment is much advanced and grand with consistent twists and turns. First half deals with successful recreating Era of Golden seventies where one in million Om runs behind and saves life of his “Dreamy Girl” Shanti who happens to be the raining superstar then. But when it comes to the happy ending of their saga, life takes a twist and an unfortunate event takes life of both Om and Shanti (I don’t want to spoil the suspense plot here).

While the second half starts with the current time, Om Kapoor who is raining superstar now is a star son of seventies superstar Rajesh Kapoor who was in a way involved in the story of first part. With some twist and turns in the story, Om recalls his past life that he is a rebirth of Om and he is on a mission to accomplish the left task from his past life with the help of Sandy (Sandhya) who apparently is his biggest fan. That’s the end of story.

Kudos to Farah Khan that she was so right in making this film by including all the ingredients in the movie; be it comedy, romance, emotion, drama or suspense. Movie is to its entire stretch a treat to watch. Music background was also very nice by Vishal and Shekar; each song comes with the requirement not as if they are padded just to feel the time; lyrics make them even more soothing while listening. Sets that recreate the seventies Era are fabulous and makes scenic pleasure entire movie. From the cast SRK rocks undoubtedly, I must say I liked this one the most of his entire performances till date. He had a tough task this time to match with a young girl Deepika as a pair and didn’t both look stunning together, just picture perfect. I can write ten pages praising SRK for his show this time but let’s get on to others. Kirron Kher is remarkable in her performance, the scene between him and SRK in second half would bring tears to your eyes. Shreyas was as good as he could, he and SRK were brilliant together almost every where in movie. Pick of the movie is Arjun Rampal, be sure to get surprised with the role he is playing in the movie; he steals the show when ever he comes on the frame. Now comes my favorite part: Deepika!! I wish the dialog SRK says “Jub kisi ko dil se chhaho to sari kayanat use aapse milane ke liye aa jati hai” come true for me. She is a Diva, no more Katrina for me now; it’s all Deepika from now onwards. Watch out her in forthcoming ventures, this time other than her mesmerizing smile she had very little to do in front of the big shots in the movie.

I highly recommend this one to everyone; go out and have healthy fun.
